Join our Talented Artists this month as we tackle two new challenges.
Our month long challenge is a tribute to the artist Edward Gorey
Edward Gorey published over one hundred of his own works. He also illustrated the works of Samuel Beckett, T.S. Eliot, John Updike, Charles Dickens, Edward Lear, Lewis Carroll, Hilaire Belloc, John Ciardi, Muriel Spark, Edmund Wilson, Peter Newmeyer, H.G. Wells, Florence Parry Heide, Bram Stoker, and many others.

Perhaps one of his most well known works is

The Gashleycrumb Tinies

(artwork © Edward Gorey 1963. THE GASHLYCRUMB TINIES: OR, AFTER THE OUTING First edition: New York: Simon and Schuster, 1963. White boards with greenish-gray, mustard, and black pictorial stamping; issued without a dust wrapper. Note: This book was issued as part of a three-volume set in a pictorial slipcase with the overall title THE VINEGAR WORKS / THREE VOLUMES OF MORAL INSTRUCTION.

Edward Gorey combined his uniquely eclectic and Gothic style illustrations with macabre, humorous and often non-sensical texts.

Although many Gorey books can be found in the "children's" sections of libraries and bookstores his works have become a favorite of adults and serious collectors alike. (artwork © Edward Gorey 1972. First edition: New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons [1972]. White composition boards with yellow-beige, brown, red, and black pictorial stamping)
If you have never read an Edward Gorey book, Amphigorey is a good place to start!
